Given that the there is basically no owner’s manual for the human digestive tract or how to eat well we thought we would share what cutting edge science is saying about digestion and how to eat.
Most people have been trained how to eat by the big business industry, fast foods, meat and dairy industry, the producers of the food pyramid! Since big business pays for it, they get to put what they like on it, and the tragedy is; there is no science behind their claims. Today many Americans are suffering as a result.
Regarding digestion, the first thing to keep in mind, is the size of your stomach. Your stomach is as big as your fist! That’s right brothers and sisters, as big as your fist. Therefore it is far better to eat more often than large meals. And simple is better than complex. Eating more than the size of your fist, may compact food so intensely into your system you’ll stay full for hours, but you’ll pay for it in the short term. Since the stomach is as big as your fist keep the following in mind. When you eat the right foods (raw fresh and natural food) there is a big difference in digestion from the standard cooked food meals we force our bodies to endure. The human digestive tract is considered “the best juice extractor in the world.” Therefore, when eating the appropriate foods the following happens: During thorough mastication in the mouth, the salivary glands secrete saliva that contains enzymes to break down starches and fats. If we have adequate minerals in our system, the saliva contains an abundance of alkaline minerals to activate the enzymes in the foods we eat.
After mastication the foods drops into our upper stomach. At this point the body does nothing to the food. It allows the temperature and alkaline minerals to activate the enzymes in the food. These enzymes are only present in food kept below 120 degrees and not irradiated. Cooked foods create a different type of digestion, we will discuss here.
In the upper stomach many enzymes are activated, and the type of food dictates how long the stomach will hold onto it. Simple foods like water or watermelon are only held onto in the upper stomach for 10-15 minutes. Heavier foods like nuts and oils can be held for 20-40 minutes before it drops into the lower stomach.
